Jeremiah 44:
“Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke Me to anger, in that they went to burn incense and to serve other gods whom they did not know (verse 3).”
“However, I sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them saying, “Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate!” But they did not listen or incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods. So My fury and My anger were poured out and kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem (verses 4-6).”
God gave us His Word and within His Word, He tells us what sin is and what He does not want us to do. All believers who read His Word know from His Word what He calls sin. The prophets knew, because God spoke it to them and SENT the prophets to tell the people they were in sin, so that they would know and can turn from sin. There are still prophets and watchmen today who are on assignment to warn, and the same still happens today. However, all believers today have the Word, and know what God calls sin and should also speak the Word to people so they know, and what they do with it is between them and God. We have a duty to call sin - sin and speak the truth. Ezekiel 3:18 tells us to warn, and if we don’t their blood will be on OUR hands. When you warn people of sin (especially lukewarm Christians - or non-believers who’ve never read the Bible but know one verse), you’ll have them say: “Don’t judge me.” That is the enemy trying to intimidate. Just like he did with Eve when he said, “Is that really what God said?” He is doing the same here, trying to intimidate to not spread the truth of the gospel. We are to warn, let them decide, and let God judge them for their sin. Warning is different from judging. If you tell your child not to play in traffic lest you get hit by a car; that is warning, not judging. So the same goes by telling people, God says ……. is a sin. That is a warning. They may feel angry and convicted because they know they’re in sin and don’t want to change. Warn anyway; don’t let the blood be on your hands.
