Hurry! Run! She is getting her dad!!!!!

Hurry!  Run!  She is getting her dad!!!!

We grew up really poor, but my mom always found a way to make sure we were taken care of.  We had WICC and food stamps, she would go to the food banks, and she always found a way to make ends meet.  My dad had really good health insurance from his job, so with that she was also always able to make sure we had our regular dental cleanings and the medical care we needed.  So although we did not have much, God always provided for our basic needs.

I was about 7 years old or so when I was sitting on the front porch of our rental.  We lived in Bridgeport, CT in a 3 story home that had been converted to 3 separate apartments; which was the norm for that area.  It wasn’t the best neighborhood; drugs, violence, etc.  You would see needles on the ground, or tiny little plastic bags, etc. that were all used for drugs.  I remember walking with my cousin Jenny one day and we almost got kidnapped; which is a story for another day.

As I sat on that front porch I excitedly held a dollar bill in my hand while waiting for the ice cream truck to come by.  I didn’t always have this extra dollar to get an ice cream so I was beyond excited to enjoy the treat that was to come!  There were so many choices, and of course I wanted them all!  Was I going to get one of those ice creams with the gumball at the bottom?  A chocolate eclair?  A strawberry crunch?  There were endless possibilities!!

While sitting there daydreaming and drifting into my own world with my dollar in my hand thinking of ice cream, 2 older boys (maybe about 15 or so) came up to me.  They took the dollar from my hand and I ran to my door and rang the doorbell.  I heard one of the boys yell, “HURRY, RUN, SHE IS GETTING HER DAD!!”  The fear of a young girl’s dad coming and handling the situation scared them and caused them to panic and flee.  You see, they weren’t afraid of me, but they were afraid of someone with a higher authority and capability to truly deal with them.

It is the same with our Heavenly Father.  The enemy doesn’t fear us because of who we are, but because of who is living in us and whose name we call on for authority!  It is written that in the name of Jesus darkness must flee.  James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  Luke 10:17 says, “The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”  We need to put our faith and hope in Jesus.  We need to be consecrated to him; set apart.  We need to die to self and let him rise up in us!  The enemy knows the authority we have because of who is living in us, he just doesn’t want us to know.  Call on Jesus and have him fight your battles!  Let the Holy Spirit do a new work in you and use you as His temple, while you answer and say, “here I am, send me.”

Just like those boys didn’t fear me, a little 7 year old girl, the enemy doesn’t fear when we try to do things under our own accord or thinking the power and authority comes from us.  Acts 19:15 says, “But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?”  Don’t make the mistake of trying to go on your own accord and don’t make the mistake of not giving God the glory or taking His glory from him.  God gives us giftings, power, and authority.  But it is HIS power, HIS gifting for us, HIS authority so that we can walk out our purpose and serve him.  We are His hands and feet, and He gets all the glory! Mark 16:17-20 says, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;  they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So let the old man die, and the new creation in Christ rise up strong! Let it be that when the demons see you coming, they panic and scream, “HURRY RUN!  SHE IS GETTING HER DAD!”

Be blessed.
